Part 2 of the IPC documentation will:

• provide a listing of recommended applications that have been tested and are considered reliable; and
• provide configuration documentation and advice for a number of the more commonly-used significant applications.

The configuratiuon of application software can often be critical to its effective use. The more complex the application, the more cricical it is that the configuration be managed appropriately.

Complex applications, or even simple low-level utility applications, can and often do have  significant interaction with the operating system. If those interactions are not well understood and controlled, they can cause overall system instability leading to loss of time, productivity and data.
